How come when a doctor gives me my weekly allergy shot it hurts a lot less then when a nurse does?
Q. Do they know where to place the needle where it does not hurt or something?
Asked by Ryan - Thu May 10 00:01:11 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Believe it or not doctors are not taught the proper way or place to give an injection in medical school whereas nurses are taught proper technique and position in nursing school. Nurses give more shoots so they have more practice.

what shot hurts the most (at the doctors)?
Q. ok just wondering whats thw worst shot that hurts the most. say what it is and on a scale of 1-10 1 being not that bad and 10 being the worst?
Asked by shake it metro station!!!! - Fri Jan 2 21:02:22 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In my opinion it's the HPV shot (Guardisil). I was too old to get it, but I'm a nurse in a clinic and all the girls that get it say that it hurts the worst out of the ones that they have to get at that age (Tetnus, Meningitis). We actually have them sit with an ice pack for about 10 mins before getting the shot to help numb up the area.

A. Having an injection should be fairly painless if the person administering it does it properly. So, I'd say bursting a spot. Urgh.

My arm hurts like i received a shot in it?
Q. So today in class, all of the sudden i started to get this weird pain through my arm and it only got worse, it felt sort of like when you get a shot, but the pain would go away and it started to hurt worse. Well it started to feel better and then the pain came back in my shoulder and my arm. Anybody know what is wrong with it? I have no recollection of hitting it against anything, last night one of the cat's bit me on the wrist of my arm that is hurting though.

A. That's odd. I wouldn't worry too much about it yet. Give it a few days and see what happens. If it gets worse, or if more symptoms start showing up, then you should ask a doctor about it. If it gets better and goes away, then you're fine :)

How long should the Anthrax shot hurt?
Q. My husband had the anthrax shot and is complaining that it hurts and I was just wondering how long it would last for. He had it done on Tuesday and today is Thursday. Can someone please help a little here, should I take him in or is it normal?

A. Mikeswoman, If your husband received the anthrax vaccine, he should ask the medical person who gave him the shot(s) what to expect. This vaccine, which I have received in the past, is usually reserved for military and/or medical researchers and personnel. He should also report his reaction and ask any questions. The formaldehyde in the vaccine usually causes the stinging, as it also does in the tetanus vaccine. It should disappear within 48 hours. Is it true that the "tetanus shot" hurts more than the usual needles?
Q. Please help. I really want to know if it hurts more then ordinary needles? Because apparently they jab it into your muscle, Ouchh

A. I'm sorry to tell you this, but it actually does hurt more. It's not really the pain though, more that your arm will be sore for the next day or so. I used to be really scared of shots, but last summer I had mono and they gave me a shot on the upper part of my left butcheek. It hardly hurt at all! Now I always ask if they can do it there. You might want to try this too.

What shot hurts more?
Q. Which shot hurts more? a novacaine shot for a cavity, or a lidocaine shot for a mole removal? I want a mole removed from my back and im not sure how that will go so im wondering if the shot is bad. Ive had novacaine its not really bad at all so im just trying to compare the two thanks
Asked by Johnny - Wed Sep 10 00:11:50 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Shots for dental work definitely hurt more. Lidocaine, once injected, acts almost instantly. Usually, the majority pain experienced from a lidocaine injection, or any injection for that matter, is caused by injecting the liquid too rapidly, causing the tissue to stretch rapidly and hurt. This happens frequently in dental procedures, however, subcutaneous injections used for mole removal are much simpler, easier to access, and the tissue "gives" more than dental tissues, making it easier to control the rate of administration, thus making the injection practically painless in the hands of an experienced medical professional.

Does the Gardasil shot hurt worse than a tetanus shot?
Q. I sound like a baby I know, but I have to get it tomorrow, and I am terrified of needles. It took them about 10 minutes to get me to calm down to put the tetanus shot in me. I was just wondering if the first Gardasil shot hurts worse. Does it?

Does the tetnis and meningitis shot hurt a lot while your getting the needle put in your arm?

A. The actual injection doesn't hurt, just a quick pinch. To make it easier for both you and the person doing the poking, look away, take slow deep breathes and try to relax your muscle. It's going to be a bot sore afterward but try and keep the arm active, use an ice-pack and if it gets bad take an over the counter painkiller like advil or pandadole. Good Luck, Be Brave

Yesterday's tetanus shot hurts?
Q. Yesterday i got four shots, tetanus, hepatitis A, gardasil, and meningitis. Anyway they all feel fine , even when i touch the sites of the injections, except where I got the tetanus shot hurts whenever I move that area of that arm, It's also swollen, so it looks like I have a bigger bicep. And it's sorta reddish. When will the swelling go down and why is this the only one that hurts the next day out of all the other shots?

A. Tetanus is known to cause more irritation than most other immunizations. I also warn my patients of this when I give the shot. It should only last two to three days, if it goes longer than that you should see your doctor again. Furthermore, it should not get any worse than it is; and likewise, if it does, call the doctor. Anyway, you can ease the symptoms with a few simple remedies. First, gentle stretching will improve the blood flow to the area and help repair the damaged tissue. After stretching, apply a cold pack to the site to cool it down and reduce inflammation. Ibuprofen is a good choice for the inflammation and tenderness, but just make sure you follow the directions of the bottle for dosing and timing. Tetanus is the worst… [cont.]

I broke my femur (thigh bone) in june, and had surgery inserting a titanium rod (goes fr my hip to my knee) into the bone, and 4 screws to keep it in place. the bone has since healed, but i've been having alot of pain within the last 3 weeks, so i went back to the doctor, and he gave me a cortisone shot to help with the pain. I'll be honest, the shot wasn't very pleasant. the shot itself doesn't hurt, but you can feel the stuff going in, and its kind of a stinging feeling. The doctor said 1 day after I'd feel great, the next 2 i would feel "not so hot" and after that I'd feel great. Your situation might be different, because of where mine was, the needle was inserted in about 6 different locations,… [cont.]

Can a penicillin shot/ any shot hurt you in a negative way if applied wrong?
Q. I received a penicillin shot about a month ago. Every since i got it by butt has been hurting like if my muscle was ripped. The pain has all gone to my hip, hamstring, and side of my thigh. Does this mean it may have be injected improperly. What can be causing this? It feels like my butt/leg muscle is ripped is i do a wrong movement. Can someone tell me what is going on please?
Asked by hoc2424 - Fri Jul 24 07:51:37 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Go see a doctor. Penicillin does hurt, but what you are describing sounds like someone didn't follow the landmarks when giving you an IM injection and hit your sciatic nerve. Your doctor could prescribe a medication to help with nerve pain. You need to make sure no permanent damage was down. I'm sorry to hear about that!

I just got my booster shot and it hurts like a b***h!!!!?
Q. Yesterday I just got my booster shot and needles usually don't hurt, maybe like a little pinch but it goes away after... But I just got my booster shot and at first it didn't hurt at all, but the next morning (today), it hurts so much! It feels like a giant bruise and when I move my arm it hurts cause of it... Is this normal? Anything I can do?

A. It's normal. Message it a lot and put ice on it! Eat ice cream because it always make me feel better ;]
