A. it's a holiday started by the catholics i believe. They celebrate a day of being naughty before a day ash wednesday..then during easter you fast and all. The name Mardi gras means Fat Tuesday in french. It's a day of eating, drinking, and sex. They eat cakes and crepes (thin fruit filled pancakes) and sometimes they put a plastic baby in the cake and if you get the baby you win! they dance, sing, and play games. They make mazipan (spelling?) a sort of nutty sugar paste candy, too! check out it has lots of info!

Now i'm 16 (look 18/19 as everyone else says), not afraid of goinh out/hooking up with older chicks, infact i prefer that . Okay now that you know a little about me where the hell can i find Hot, 16-22 year old girls in france ? if they speak english thats cool but local is aowsome too. So any help would be appricated! Okay thanks for the answers! Didn't now that about french culture. So let me rephrase the question into two parts. A) Where are all the places where the hot french 16-22 year old girls hang out ? what clubs and bars ? B)Where are all the places where the hot non-frenc [cont.]

A. What makes you think that any French girls 'hot' or otherwise will particularly want to talk to you? But if you're not too loud, dress stylishly, act charmingly and subtley and speak French you may be able to converse with French women - there are hundreds of bars in Nice so it shouldnt be a problem (although more than likely you will end up talking to other tourists rather than local people)

I'm going to Nice, France for a month....what are some good ideas for weekend trips?
Q. I'm studying abroad in Nice, France for a month and I think I'll want to explore the surrounding areas while I'm there! What cities do you recommend? They have to be easy to get to by train, and around 50-60 dollars round trip by train :) Thanks for your ideas!

A. I was in Nice a few years ago and we took many side-trips. Soem that I would recommend are - Eastbound you go to - - Monaco (~20 minutes away by train) - Genoa (in Italy) (~2 hours by train) Westbound you go to - - Cannes (40 minute drive) - Marseille (1 hour 40 minutes by train) We even did a trip to Rome and Pisa by train, but that took 5 days (including an 8 hour trip each way by train from Nice to Rome) - but that would be too much to put into a weekend trip. Enjoy your stay in Nice. We met a couple that went from Nice (or Monaco - I forget which place) to Corsica by boat. I think they said it was 2 - 3 hours each way, and they really liked it.

What are some fun things to do in Nice, France?
Q. My girlfriend and I are going to Nice and are looking for suggestions for things to do while we are there - restaurants, nightclubs, museums, etc.

A. Do you have to stay in Nice the whole time? Or will you have a car or be able to do a day tour. Nice has expensive shopping and expensive dining. Nice city, but not as much to see as say Canne, Provence or Monte Carlo (to name a few). I would suggest checking out the link below. Gives you an idea of activities in Nice but also if you have a free day there are lots of areas close by. Most folks do not stay in Nice for more than a couple days, being that there are so many things to do outside of the city.

A. I live near Bologna and take this trip by train sometimes. Going through Tuscany is a bit out of the way but since you have the weekend for the whole trip, you could see a bit. It will limit how many places you can stop though. You could go from Bologna to Florence and spend a few hours there. Or from Bologna to the Pisa/Lucca area directly. The driving time to Lucca/Pisa is around two hours from Bologna. The driving time from Pisa to Nice is around 4 hours, but there are a lot of opportunities for stops along the way. You can't drive into most of the towns of the Cinque Terre but you could either stop in La Spezia and take the train into the area, or drive to Monterosso. Cinque Terre is a beautiful area with very scenic towns. Genova or… [cont.]

What are the ultimate things to see near Nice, France?
Q. I will be basing myself in Nice for 4-5 days and would like to limit seeing things from Cannes in the west and Ventimiglia, IT in the east. Btw, is Ventimiglia worth visiting as well?
Asked by boxjelly - Mon May 28 10:16:43 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Ventimiglia is now just a huge market for copies of luxury items and not worth the trip, especially when the tourist season starts. Customs agents wait for the tourists at the border to take their copies and give them big fines. Nice itself is worth visiting, here is a link : There's also plenty of small towns with medieval walls, old city centers, museums and the like. This was a very travelled route in the old times so you have plenty of constructions, medieval, roman, you name it they probably have it. This should help you. I recommend Grasse if you are curious about perfumes. And of course there is the famous Monaco rock, its Cousteau museum and its casinos.

How does one get from Nice France to Amsterdam and back?
Q. Do you think it's possible to fit it into a leave Friday night come back Monday night kind of thing with a mixture of trains and flights?
Asked by andsawe4 - Tue Apr 28 10:29:34 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Going there by train for a weekend visit is not really practical as you would spend way too much time travelling and then not have much time to spend in Amsterdam to be honest You best bet is by plane. Transavia and KLM run direct services (with Swiss Iar, Lufthansa and a couple others doing it with a stopover) and if you book in advance, Transavia does some good fares. However, fares are mariginally more expensive on Friday & Sunday nights because of weekend travellers and commuters. Once you get to Schiphol (Amsterdam airport) then it is a 15min train journey from the airport to the centre of town.

Is there skiing near Nice, France? How is Nice compared to Grenoble?
Q. I'm thinking of studying in Grenoble or Nice. Which place would be good for a young person who likes being outdoors. I like skiing, climbing, windsurfing, and running. How far is skiing from Nice?
Asked by 8 - Sun Jul 20 17:39:18 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Nice is on the mediteraneen coast close to cannes, it's a really worm place in France and a lot of people go there on holiday. Grenoble is more inside the country close to the alpes so, close to sky station, it's also a lot colder and humide. Grenoble is more nature, climbing (skiing at 50km) and nice is more nautic sports but nice is also close to the alpes mountains (150km to the ski stations). I would prefer Nice because i like good weather and good weather mean more outdoors things, grenoble is not a exiting place. And for skiing you have a lot of cheep train or buses to go there.

A. Eurolines sells individual point-to-point tickets from Nice to Milan or Verona: If you start from the Eurolines home page, you need to select the "Online Coach Tickets" link rather than the "Eurolines Pass" link. But why would you take the bus when the train is cheaper and faster? You can get a 2nd class ticket on a direct train from Nice to Milan for 30 euro. There are other options changing trains in Ventimiglia.

How is EF International school in Nice, France?

A. I studied abroad in France and it was a great experience. If you can go, definitely do it! EF... There is a lot of marketing for this organization. Many are not very satisfied nor happy with them, myself included. The only good thing EF is good for, is contacts. I was very lucky and got along extremely well with my host family (my host family is coming in summer, I'm very excited). However two fellow EF students I met (who were in the same city as I) did not have my same experience. The Italian I met did not get along well with her host sister and felt so alone (and had many problems) that she went back home. The Australian had it really bad: she moved 3 times in 4 months! It takes a while to adjust and moving from place to place does… [cont.]

Does anyone know what the large white object sitting in the water off Nice, France is? Is it to tie boats to?
Q. It's fairly long and pokes out of the water in a straight line. I've just seen pictures of it and cannot figure out what it is. Thanks! No Choco - Sorry. I'd know what that is LOL... Look in Yahoo Travel pictures of Nice for the object.

A. Is this what you are talking about? If so it is the jetty with a light house at the end of it. Jetties are built to deviate or tame currents so as to facilitate ships' access to the shore. They can also be used as boarding piers, to load and unload ships, to tie boats... I don't know how it is used in Nice specifically. EDIT: Sorry I don't know which picture you are talking about. Can you post a link to it? And maybe you have better luck asking your questions on the French Yahoo/Answers, locals would know: Ask "Quelle est l'objet blanc dans l'eau sur la photo? A quoi ca sert? Merci." (What is the white object in the water in the picture? What's it for? Thanks)

Where is a good place to shop in Nice, France?
Q. I'm going to Nice, France next Thursday for the summer holidays and I was wondering where some good shopping areas around there are...? I was wondering if there is anywhere that sells a lot of band merchandise etc. because I would like to buy a bunch of Tokio Hotel merchandise :)

A. There are tons of places to shop in Nice. If you're looking for local merchandise, there is a local market that takes place daily. I can't remember street names since it's been a few years, but it's right down by the beaches that are close to where there are those gardens in the cliff (someone kept calling them "the hanging gardens of Babylon" on my trip). Also, further west of that area there is a main pedestrian boulevard that has a number of boutiques and other shops where I'm sure your money will be well spent. Enjoy, I am dying to go back to Nice sometime soon!
