Transport or transportation is the movement of people and goods from one location to another. Modes of transport include air, rail, road, water, cable, pipeline, and space. The field can be divided into infrastructure, vehicles, and operations. Transport infrastructure consists of the fixed installations necessary for transport, and may be roads, railways, airways, waterways, canals and pipelines, and terminals such as airports, railway stations, bus stations, warehouses, trucking terminals, refueling depots (including fueling docks and fuel stations), and seaports. Terminals may be used both for interchange of passengers and cargo and for maintenance. Vehicles traveling on these networks may include automobiles, bicycles, buses, trains, trucks, people, helicopters, and aircraft. Operations deal with the way the vehicles are operated, and the procedures set for this purpose including financing, legalities and policies. In the transport industry, operations and ownership of infrastructure can be either public or private, depending on the country and mode. Passenger transport may be public, where operators provide scheduled services, or private. Freight transport has become focused on containerization, although bulk transport is used for large volumes of durable items. Transport plays an important part in economic growth and globalization, but most types cause air pollution and use large amounts of land. While it is heavily subsidized by governments, good planning of transport is essential to make traffic flow, and restrain urban sprawl. From Wikipedia under the

What type of transportation do you usually (or, most often) use? For you, what are the benefits (advantages) of using that form of transportation? What do you think of the transport conditions in your hometown? Do you think transportation costs (gasoline, subway, bus & taxi fares, etc) are expensive in your hometown? In China, is transportation in the big cities the same as transportation in small towns and villages? Asked by Sara - Sun Oct 14 02:14:57 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I used my truck. I often us my truck. I get from point A to point Z and all the points in between. Hometown is too congested during the day. Fuel prices are about 15 cents higher than anywhere else. More mass transit in bigger cities. Answered by the_cheeze_cop - Sun Oct 14 02:16:53 2007 What is the most reasonable transportation system for a visitor visiting Japan? Q. I want to visit Japan in March. So I want to know what is the most reasonable transportation system for a visitor visiting Japan? Asked by slohmousavi - Thu Jan 26 12:55:49 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would agree with the above poster. Trains and the subway systems are awesome, safe and always on time. We visited a few months ago and were very impressed. At the ticket counter they will tell you in solid English where/how to get anywhere. Important tip: Before you go though, you should get the Japan Rail Pass for the time you are staying there. It allows you for unlimited travel on JR (major) trains for the time you are there. You must get it outside of Japan though. Check the site for all info. It can be expensive otherwise. Answered by seetheglobey - Thu Jan 26 15:23:59 2006 How can I go by public transportation from Oakland Ca to Stanford University in Palo Alto?
Q. Also if there's a transportation system within the University itself in order to get around within the grounds. Asked by nenesma - Tue Oct 28 18:26:59 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. You can get there quite easily using the train. Take BART (subway) from anywhere in Oakland to Millbrae station. At Millbrae station, cross the platform and transfer to Caltrain for Palo Alto. the Stanford campus is within walking distance of the station. However, you can also use the university's free shuttle service to get around. Answered by SFdude - Wed Oct 29 13:07:07 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Transportation" See also:
