The French First Republic (fr. Republique Française) was founded on 22 September, 1792, by the newly established National Convention. The First Republic lasted until the declaration of the First French Empire in 1804 under Napoleon. This period is characterized by the fall of the monarchy, the establishment of the National Convention and the infamous Reign of Terror, the founding of the Directory and the Thermidorian Reaction, and finally, the creation of the Consulate and Napoleon Bonaparte’s rise to power.

A. Before that France had a monarchy. Almost at 1800 there was a popular uprising, you already know, then the tenniscourt oath by 2 or three groups representing the different social classes. They were supposed to meet up and discuss how to get France out of the tense situation caused by the debt incurred during the French and Indian or Queen Ann's war but the King tricked them. Louis XVI (16th) and Marie Antoinette (the one who said "let them eat cake") were somehow held captive in Paris by the public and when they tried to leave they were captured and beheaded. After that some new ideas were experimented on, one was trying out a new calender with 10 day weeks instead of 7.

A. Pinckney's Treaty had to do with Spain so I'd say France and Great Britain went to war.

A. I would say the failure of the Weimar republic was inevitable given the onerous terms of the Treaty of Versailles. Germany was not financially viable as it had to make huge reparation payments to france, in particular, but had lost a significant commercial land areas ( Alsace/Lorraine). This led to Germany defaulting on these payments, causing France and Belgium to occupy the Ruhr industrial area. Germany then purposely devalued its currency resuming payments with worthless currency. This forced the removal of foreign troops together with the revaluation of the mark to close to its 1918 level, and payments resumed. The Munich Putsch was in response to the crisis, but was probably not that significant at the time, as Hitler's party was… [cont.]
